Scott's® emulsion contains Cod Liver Oil which supplements vitamins A, Vitamin D and Omega 3 fatty acids; Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA).

Vitamin A plays an important role in vision, growth, reproduction, cell division and cell differentiation. It helps regulate the immune system and may also promote healthy mucous membrane surface linings of the eyes and the respiratory, urinary and intestinal tracts.

vitamin D promotes calcium absorption in the gut and maintains adequate serum calcium and phosphate concentrations, facilitating normal mineralization of bones. It has roles in modulation of cell growth, neuromuscular and immune function and reduction of inflammation.


Omega-3 fatty acids are the basic constituents of phopholipid membranes and determine cellular membrane fluidity and modulate the activities of enzymes, carriers and membrane receptors. They are also precursors of active metabolites like prostaglandins, prostacyclins, thromboxanes and leukotrienes which regulate cellular functions.

Dosage and administration

Children 1 to 3 years: Take 5ml of Scott's® emulsion once a day
Children 4 to 8 years: Take 15ml of Scott's® emulsion once a day
Children 9 years and above and adults: Take 15ml of Scott's emulsion thrice a day.
Scott's® emulsion should only be given to infants under one year under the advice of a doctor.

Contraindications

Cod liver oil is contraindicated in patients with a prior hypersensitivity reaction to Cod liver oil or any other ingredients of the preparation

Warnings and precautions


Do not exceed the recommended dose. Excess of Vitamin A and D could be harmful.
Cod liver oil is derived from cod. It may also contain other fish products. Therefore do not use this product if you have a fish allergy.
Patients with hepatic or renal impairment may have specific nutritional requirements. Therefore, medical advice must be sought before taking this product.


Pregnancy and lactation


Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a doctor before using this product. Do not take Vitamin A supplements if you are pregnant or likely to become pregnant except on the advice of a doctor. Excessive doses of Vitamin A should be avoided in pregnancy because of potential teratogenic effects.
